Recently, I experienced something irritating: there are couple of my friends (female friends) that only talk to me when they want to talk about themselves, only.
I do feel happy when friends share their problems or happiness or whatever mundane thing with me, because when they do so, that means they trust me and treat me as their friend.
But too much of "I..." is irritating, specifically for those who NEVER even bother to talk to me, suddenly talked to me, only about "I...", wanting some feedbacks from me (which I doubt they actually input it into their mind), and when it is my turn to share my stuff, she will somehow "listen" to me, but within few seconds, talk back about her initial topic, "I..."
X: Guess what, I ..blah blah blah
me: oooo, so you should ...blah blah blah
X: ya, then...blah blah blah
me: ic.
X: (keep blah-ing)
me: Btw, today I did this...blah blah blah
X: (normally showing i-dont-care face) Really?... about the thing I told you just now, I was..blah..blah..blah.
me: (sigh-mentally)
maybe this dialogue does not make sense to you. But my point is, I really cannot stand those who just talk to me when they need a listener, without bothering about getting feedbacks from me, and have zero intention to be my listener. Somehow people love to talk to me about thier thing, Am I really a good listener?
Well, I really dont mind to listen, but please do the same to me when I need a listener; A good listener still need listener.
Some tips to not irritate your friend(listener) when you want to talk about "I...":
Be alert with signs of boredom from their face.
Listen to their feedbacks (although it might not be useful, but at least listen to show respect)
Do the same thing when your friend need a listener in the future. (its really a two-way thing)
and
never..NEVER talk to you friend ONLY when you have problem.
(dont be like stranger when you have nothing to talk to her/him)
